We made a suspended christmas ornament tree!

2014-12-06 14.41.26Here we go!
Laying out the paper for creating a ceiling template for all of the hooks.

Here’s the layout.

I forgot to save the 3-d model version, so you don’t get that I’m afraid 🙁 I used Autocad for this, measured the wall space, the depth I could go from the wall, and just made concentric rings on a conical plane. All in all, it was probably unnecessary. I could have rough guessed it all on the fly and been pretty good anyway.

2014-12-06 16.21.57Drew a 3″x3″ grid (42″x24″ total), used that to approximate the dots from the 3-d model. The big square cutout is for an A/C Vent. That’s going to be the real challenge.

2014-12-06 16.34.55Placed on ceiling. The grate was going to provide significant challenge

2014-12-06 16.46.48All the hooks up!

2014-12-06 17.11.55Paper removed, color coded the hooks to remember what “rings” were what

2014-12-06 17.26.37Here’s the capstone ornament!

2014-12-06 17.30.11Robin is stringing them all and crimping, and I’m putting them up one by one. She got really fast with this after the first couple ornaments.

2014-12-06 18.13.21Making progress

2014-12-06 18.51.03Starting to look tree-ish!

2014-12-07 16.47.29All done! Garland underneath and the prestigious award to set it off!

HDRAnd here’s the glamour Shot.

Hope you liked it! Took about 3-4 hours from start to finish.

It kind of looks like a Dalek, and as you can see from the painting in the background, we have no problem with that.
